With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Helen Gaines of West Palm Beach, Florida, born in Wilmington, North Carolina, who passed away on April 4, 2026 at the age of 92. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, John Henry Sampson, Sr. and Carrie Mae Sampson Hicks; and her daughter Joyce. She is survived by: her sons, Rodney Gaines of Charlotte and Reginald Gaines (Cheryl) of Greensboro; her sister Eleanor Henton of Detroit, Michigan; her grandchildren, Camisha Hollifield (Kyle), Niesha Gaines, Tiffany Gaines, LaKeisha Gaines and Amaya Gaines; her great grandchildren, Araya Riggins, Quentin Gaines, Quentessa Gaines and Unique Gaines; and her son-in-law Kyle Hollifield. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
