He was predeceased by: his parents, Hubert "Buddy" Yates and Ottice Grant Yates; his brother J. B. Yates; and his brothers-in-law, Bobby Legear and Johnnie Griggs.
He is survived by: his wife Pat Yates; his daughters, Erin Jones (Trey) and Carrie Atlow; his grandchildren, Terra (Austin), Trey (Jadyn), Ty, Cierra and Xander; his great grandchild Azalea; his siblings, Glen Yates, Eleanor Legear, Donna Faye Griggs, Carolyn Pugh (Donnie) and Vinita Yon (Joel); and his sister-in-law Tessie Yates. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
