He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruth Blanchard and Kenneth Blanchard; and his siblings, Merideth Sperling and David. He is survived by: his wife Judith; his children, Andrew (Darby) of Winter Garden, Florida and Sara Petchey (Owen) of Zurich, Switzerland; and his grandchildren, Ellie, Noah Blanchard, Heath and Drew Petchey.
He poured his heart into staying healthy as long as possible through "Rock Steady Boxing," a rehab program designed for people with Parkinson's disease and biking the Winter Garden trail.
