He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis John Nelson and Amelia Jean Schreier; his siblings, Edith Tampier, Al Olson, Jenny Griffis, Barbara Nelson, Shirley Sumney, Junior Livesay and George Livesay; and his son Gary Gene Nelson.
He is survived by: his wife Rhoda I. Nelson; his children, Richard (Darcy Nelson), Mellissa Gonzales, Cindy (John Collins) and John (Paige Shirley); his grandchildren, Trae, Bri Jelinek, Trevor Jelinek, Teague Jelinek, Tony Gonzales, Shelby, Justin Valesquez, Sierra Nelson, Ricky Nelson, Shyanne Nelson, John Martin Shirley, Kristi, Andy Dillhyon and Drew Feagle; and his great grandchildren, Sawyer Penn Jelinek, Blake Dillhyon and Dane Dillhyon. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
