He was loved and cherished by many people including: parents: Sim and Alberta Nelson; wife: Willie Bell Nelson; children: Plezy Lee (Sara) Nelson, Jr., Dr. Robert Lee (Mary) Nelson, Lillie Bell (Walter) Pitts, Mildred (Greg) Hylick, Alberta Nelson, Patricia Stewart, Minister Mary Nelson (Gary), David Nelson, Katherine Nelson, Brenda (John) Cornish, Irma Thomas, and Michael Jerome Nelson; sisters-in-law: Bessie Mae Alford and Martha Alford; 30 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 14th 2026 at 4:00 PM at the Staley Memorial Gardens (Americus, GA 31719).
