She was predeceased by: her former husband William Delbert Johnston Sr.; her stepdaughter Jessica Fran Smith; her stepgrandchild Daven Stapleton; and her husband Thomas C. Smith. She is survived by: her sons, William Delbert Johnston Jr. of Suches and Charles King Johnston (Tammi) of Leslie; her stepdaughters, Gail Ledger (Charlie) and Claire Simmerson (Chuck); her brother Charles Brewster King Jr. (Patti) of Atlanta; her granddaughter Wendi Johnston Clark (Russell); her stepgrandchildren, Jessica Molina (Luis), Jarrod Crocker (Chris), Frances Larrea (Joseph), Lyn Boykin (Sam), Claire Batson (Court), Clint Ledger (Lorrie) and Chad Ledger (Jolie); and her great grandchildren, Kagen Mathis and Brylie Redding.
