He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Anderson and Lizzie Mae Anderson (Johnson); his wife Essie Anderson; his son James Anderson; his siblings, John Anderson, Georgia Bell Bowen, Dwight Anderson and Reba Anderson; and his grandchildren, Lil'Doug Jones and Tammy Jones.

He is survived by: his children, Billy Anderson (Lisa), Melvin Anderson, Jerry Anderson and Alice Jones (Doug); and his grandchildren, Shemeko Thompson (Marcus), Kemeko "Phat" Colon, Shamarcus Anderson, Pamela Odister, Joshua Jones, Melvin Anderson, Jr., Kendrick Anderson, Derrick Anderson and Donte Anderson. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
