With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Hiram Mack Thurmond (Athens, Georgia), born in Farmington, Georgia, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on October 11, 2025. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfrus Henry Thurmond and Lois Vickery Thurmond; and his siblings, Wyverlyn Peck and John Thurmond. He is survived by: his wife Ellen Verner Thurmond; his sons, Jeff and Brett; his granddaughters, Augusta Kilburn (Evan) and Megan Thurmond; and his sister Patsy Savage (Frank).
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Lord and Stephens West Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 19th 2025 at 4:00 PM at the St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church (3195 S Barnett Shoals Rd, Athens, GA 30605).
