He was predeceased by: his parents, Glyndon Conger and Bert Franklin Madden; his wife Trudy; and his sister Mary Jane White. He is survived by: his children, Bert Conger Madden Jr. (Kelly) of Atlanta, Katherine Madden Fuller (Tim) of Nashville and Allen Grimes Madden (Ann) of Atlanta; his grandchildren, Katherine Madden Sharpton (Scott) of Nashville, Caroline Madden Duvall (Chas) of Atlanta, Laura Madden McFarland (Reid) of Birmingham, Sarah Grace Madden of Atlanta, Allen Wilson Madden of Atlanta and Virginia Truesdell Madden of Atlanta; and his great grandchildren, Charles Frazier Duvall Jr., Hayes Madden McFarland, Madden Grace Duvall and Emily Joy Sharpton.
