David left this world on April 28, 2025 at the age of 85, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Irwin and Frances Louise Swails McCowen; his brothers-in-law, John McCullough, Peter Hickey and Bobby Clark; and his loyal miniature pinscher Storm.

He is survived by: his wife Mary; his daughters, Cathy Nelson (Pierce) and Leigh Anne Weitzman (Harmon); his grandchildren, Dan and Will Nelson; his siblings, Albert McCowen (Betty) and Suzy McCullough; his siblings-in-law, Martha Hickey (Richard Warnke), George Durden (Patty) and Cathy Clark; and his nephews, Jeffrey McCowen, Hal Collier and Michael Durden.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Columbia Theological Seminary, Pleasantdale School Foundation, or Senior University of Greater Atlanta.
