He was predeceased by : his parents, Henrietta Benson and Willie Robert Benson. He is survived by : his son Marcus Lavelle (Alicia); his wife Norma Jean Boyd of Montgomery, Alabama.; his son Michael Benson (Nature); his grandchildren, Avery Benson and Morgan Benson; his siblings, Chauncey Benson, Mary Ann Willingham, Eva Whiters and Deborah Benson Brave; his siblings-in-law, Pauline Benson, Thomas (Bud), Boyd (Clementine) and George Boyd (Resna); and his nieces and nephews, Enrique Willingham, Derrick Whiters, Sonya McElory, Kieser Williams and Alexis Brave.

A celebration of life was held on Saturday, May 25th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church (3670 Boulder Park Dr SW, Atlanta, GA 30331).
