Ernest leaves behind cherished memories for friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Ernest’s life was marked by connections and experiences that touched those around him. Though he is no longer with us, the moments shared, the laughter, and the support he offered will continue to resonate. All who knew Ernest will carry forward his memory in their hearts.
He is survived by: his children, Latrevia Kates Johnson, Algernon Colby Campbell, Kendrick Kates, Ernest Kates, Jr. (Ashley Miller) and Katura Lewis (Dorian Dandy); his girlfriend Barbara Sterling; his brother Jesse Lamar Kates; and his cousin Allen Givens. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, other loving relatives and friends.
Viewing was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the Legacy Funeral Home (8968 Fayetteville Rd, Jonesboro, GA 30238). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
