He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur M. Mitchell, II and Elizabeth Alameda Cunningham Mitchell; his stepmother Emma Jean Mitchell; his brother Arthur M. Mitchell, III; and his wife Joan Mitchell.
He is survived by: his brother Eugene Mitchell; his son Todd Mitchell; his daughter-in-law Etrudy Mitchell; and his granddaughters, Imani Mitchell and Elon Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Ernest Maxwell Mitchell's memory to Wesley Woods Foundation and Jazz 91.9 WCLK, a cause close to his heart.
