He was predeceased by: his parents, Odias Hughes and Oleta Wetherington Hughes; and his siblings, Lester Hughes, Ernest Hughes and Annette Phillips.

He is survived by: his wife Sarah Regina; his daughter Sarah Elizabeth Taylor of Tiger; his grandchild Lauren; his children, Peter Wetherington Hughes (Chrissy) and Celia; and his brothers, Thomas of Prescott Valley, AZ and Joseph of New Bern, NC..
