He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester D. O'Brien and Velma M. O'Brien (Grass); his siblings, Eugene "Pippin" O'Brien, Colby O'Brien, Eddie O'Brien, Martha Fish and Patsy O'Brien; and his parents-in-law, Loren and Ruth Newby.

He is survived by: his husband Donnie "Don" G. Newby; and his sister Clarice Bettencourt (Frank). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
