He was predeceased by: his siblings, Loretta Jean Dessasau, Reverend Katie Lou Dodson, J. Mae Donnell and Robert Montgomery. He is survived by: his wife Sherley H. Montgomery; his children, Mia L. Montgomery, Marvin L. Montgomery Jr. (Shanita) and Mya Montgomery Melton (Matthew); his grandchildren, Dwayne Johnson, Zachary Montgomery, Gabriel A. Montgomery, Mila Rose Melton, Averie H. Montgomery, Nova Marie Melton and Amara Monae Melton; his brother David L. Montgomery (Juanita); and his in-laws, Gwendolyn Gordon, Connie Daughtry and Charlie Hughley (Diana). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He mentored young students as a Career Day speaker, made annual donations to his alma mater, and participated in the Civil Rights Movement, including efforts recognized in Jet Magazine.
