We announce the death of Michael Richard Hurst of Atlanta, Georgia, who passed away on September 29, 2026, at the age of 79. Michael will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Harris I. Hurst and Helen Winn Hurst; and his siblings, Harris Joseph Hurst, Robert Winn Hurst, John A. Hurst and Patsy Hurst Sheahan.
He is survived by: his wife Ellen Burns Hurst; his son Eric Hurst; his daughter-in-law Erin; his son Zac Hurst; his daughter-in-law Christian; his daughter Elizabeth Hurst Ruth; his son-in-law Brent Ruth; and his grandchildren, Aiden Hurst, Bolton Ruth, Vivienne Hurst, Dean Ruth, Duke Hurst, Owen Erbeck and Henry Erbeck.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the H. M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel (4550 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30319). A rosary will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the same location. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (353 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30308). A committal service will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Westview Cemetery Inc. (1680 Westview Dr SW, Atlanta, GA 30310).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Marist Athletic Association in his name.
