He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas John Barness and Victoria Vlasic; his son Thomas Barness; and his wife Joan Champion Barness. He is survived by: his significant other Nancy McCarty; his daughter Jane Verdecchia (AJ Verdecchia); his grandchildren, Ella and Thomas Verdecchia; his children-in-law, Greg Elliott (Catherine Chastain Elliott) and Robin Bivings (Lanier Bivings); his grandchildren-in-law, Callie Bivings and Emma Galarza (Felipe Galarza); his son-in-law Kevin McCarty (Angela McCarty); his grandchildren-in-law, Kellie and Chad McCarty; and his son-in-law Mike McCarty (Trish McCarty).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom's memory to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation or to St. Anne's Terrace Purse Fund in Atlanta, GA.
