He was predeceased by: his parents, Evelyn Kite Whitaker (William Reid Whitaker, Sr.) and Reid. He is survived by: his wife Edith Edfeldt Whitaker; his children, Lang Whitaker and Claire Whitaker Johnson; his children-in-law, Isabel González Whitaker and Andrew Johnson; and his grandchildren, Liza, Megan, Abby, Caroline and Beck.

In lieu of flowers, Reid asked that memorial contributions be made to Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church.
