He was predeceased by : his parents, Thomas Henry and Willie Lois Murray Shelnutt. He is survived by : his wife Kathy Shelnutt; his children, Kayla Russ (Jeremy) of Auburn, Michael Shelnutt (Cindy) of Athens and Tammy Wallace of Winterville; his brothers, Roger Shelnutt of Alabama and Dan Shelnutt of Peachtree City; and his grandchildren, Devin Shelnutt, Kayse Bentley, Erin Bentley, Jackie Russ of Jordan Russ, J. J and Woogie.

Visitation was held on Sunday, April 21st 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Auburn First Baptist Church (1385 6th Ave, Auburn, GA 30011). A memorial service was held on Sunday, April 21st 2024 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
