He was predeceased by: his parents, John Earnest and Jennie Vie Hanes Smith of Paducah, Kentucky.; and his brothers, Buddy James and Roy F. Smith. He is survived by: his former wife Edith Muramoto; his son Mark Edwin; his wife Jeanette Yvonne; his daughter-in-law Leea; his granddaughter Christina; his great grandchild Jeremiah Mark; his stepdaughter Jan Whitehead; and his siblings, Bobby Gene Smith, Frances Norine Staley (Ron) and Earnestine Elnora Foster (Anthony). He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew.
