He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Hamilton Norvell and Thomas Edwin Norvell; his former wife Virginia Battey Wilcox Norvell; and his wife Sandra Jones Norvell. He is survived by: his children, Jennifer N. Farrell (Rick) of St. Simons Island, James F. Norvell, Jr. (Jacinda) of Augusta and Frank W. Norvell (Mallory) of Charleston, SC; his grandchildren, Connor Farrell, Fleming Farrell, Katherine Norvell, Sarah Norvell Conway, Wilcox Norvell and Gray Norvell; and his stepdaughters, Kathy Grant, Karen Brown and Karla Cameron.
