He was predeceased by: his parents, Ossie Smith Jr. and Lillie Smith (Bracher); and his siblings, Joyce, Pete, Johnny, Charles and JoAnn.
He is survived by: his sister Vivian; his wife Sharon Smith (Jalbert); his children, JoAnn Fuentes (Jose) of Graniteville, SC, James Smith Jr. (Kelly) of Augusta, GA and April Smith (Dusty) of Blythe, GA; his grandchildren, Jose 'Manuel Fuentes Jr. (Summer), Jaynie (Fuentes), Peace (Gavin), Annabella Fuentes (Darrius), Hannah Fuentes, James Smith III, Taylan Randall, Jamie Lynn Smith, Reagan-Kate Smith, Heaven Taylor, Hope Taylor and Freddie Taylor Jr.; and his great grandchildren, Kailan, MaKinley, Scarlett, Avaleigh, Jose III, Cotton, Elliot "Eli", Maisie and Journee.
