He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Hardwick and Emily Hardwick; and his siblings, George Hughes Hardwick and Elizabeth "Betty" Hardwick Hall. He is survived by: his wife Susan Wylds Hardwick; his children, Susan Hardwick Bess (Kenneth) and Barna "Mack" McKinne Hardwick, Jr.; his grandson Jonathan Lucas Bess; and his brother Robert Westbrook Hardwick (Donna).
