He was predeceased by: his parents, John Miller Smith and Eleanor Smith Turner. He is survived by: his wife Carol Smith; and his children, Travis Richard Smith (Amanda) and Tracy Lynn Kinsey (Melvin). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
