He was predeceased by: his parents, Minnie Cato and R. T. Cato; his wife Myrl Tuggle Griffith Cato; and his siblings, Glenn Cato and Martha Cato Massengale Tinsley.
He is survived by: his aunt Grace Cato Faulkner; his friends, Bud Baxter, J. K. Jones and David Collins; his stepsons, Donald Griffith and Anthony Griffith (Alicia); his grandchildren, Tony Griffith (Laurie), David Griffith (Sara), Jonathan Griffith (Amy), Leigh Ann Phillips and Stephen Brent Phillips (Tricia); his great grandchildren, Evan, Nicholas, Alex Katherine, Joshua (Scarlett), Rebekah, Hannah, Matthew, Caia, Isaac, Kaley Dejuliannie (Brandon) and Megan Clackum; his cousin Larry Cato; and his sibling's children, Sharon Ragan (Ricky) and Tim Massengale.
