He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Charlie Max and Annie Louise Belcher Pittman; his wife Ruth Janelle "Miss Nellie" Phillips of Smithville; his children, Max Joseph Pittman, Jr. (Karan) and Mary Phyllis Pittman Beard (Dexter); his grandchildren, Matthew Beard (Kim), Daylon Beard (Jasmine), Peavy Pittman (Amy), Katie Pittman Wright (Lee) and Kirsten Beard Cochran; and his great grandchildren, Dayleigh Beard, Cam Wright, Levi Beard, Silas Beard, Warren Pittman, Charlee Wright, Whit Pittman and Talley Cochran.

Visitation was held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 from 5:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Lunsford Funeral Home (54 Court St, Cuthbert, GA 39840). A graveside service was held on Saturday, May 3rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Benevolence Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Benevolence Baptist Church 233 N. Main St. Cuthbert, GA 39840.
