He was predeceased by: his parents, James Luna Swords and Mamie Frances Swords; and his sisters, Peggy Simmons and Linda Gordon. He is survived by: his wife Gail Huff Swords; his children, Eve Swords of Blakely, GA, Stacy Swords of Atlanta, GA and Steven Swords (Lacy) of Midland, GA.; his grandchildren, Halee Swords, Brock Swords, Gabriel Buxton and Christopher Buxton; and his siblings, Wayne Swords (Bonnie) of Columbia, AL, Tony Swords (Charlotte) of Natchitoches, LA and Margie Murkerson of Dothan, AL..

Visitation was held on Thursday, May 29th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Manry Jordan Hodges Funeral Home (21802 Lucile Rd, Blakely, GA 39823). A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 30th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Blakely First Methodist Church (397 College St, Blakely, GA 39823).

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Blakely First Methodist Building Fund or the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) in Herbert's memory.
