He was predeceased by: his wife Ruth Mae Bowen Hester; his parents, James Hester and Mildred Hester; and his siblings, Tommy Hester, Jack Hester and Edna Hester Parker.

He is survived by: his children, Cheryl Hester Sanderlin (Billy) and Harold Hester, Jr.; his grandchildren, Courtney Sanderlin, Harold Hester III and Jeffrey Lustig; his close friend Ira Abbott; and his brothers, Charles Kenneth Hester (Frances) and Alton Hester. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.
