He was predeceased by: his father Orion John; his former wife Helon Robinson Johnston; his siblings, John Johnston, Bobby Johnston, Mickey Bateman, Dess Russell, Jo Ann Toole and Mary Terrell; and his stepson Ken Williams.
He is survived by: his wife Kathy Turner Johnston; his sons, Ricky Johnston of Arlington, TX and Jerome Johnston (Jennifer) of Carrollton, GA; his siblings, Ray Johnston (Joan) of Arlington, TX and Janice Kemp of Gretna, LA; and his grandchildren, Julianna Johnston and Jake Johnston. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
