He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Hammond and Mamie Cook Hammond Brown; and his brothers, R. L. Higgins, Ralph Higgins and Gray Higgins.
He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Payton Hammond; his son Brandon; his daughter-in-law Samantha Hammond; his granddaughter Addi Hammond of Bremen; and his sister Doris Inglebrightson.
