He was predeceased by: his parents, Lindsey Clayton and Era Clayton; his in-laws, Ralph and Pauline Parrish; and his brother-in-law Ridley Parrish.

He is survived by: his wife Polly Clayton; his son Lin Clayton of Bremen; his daughter-in-law Shannon Clayton; his grandchildren, Abbey and Luke Clayton; his brother Bill Clayton; his sister-in-law Marilyn Clayton (Carole Parrish); and his nieces, Jennifer Wood (Kevin), Julie Williamson (Caleb), Keigh Butler (Bob), Paige Royster and Brooke McWhorter (Mason).
