He was predeceased by: his parents, William Mayo and Sara Turner Benton; his daughter Brenda Fay Benton (Scott) of Whigham; his siblings, William Benton (Bill), Dean Benton and Elizabeth Nesmith; his grandchild Starr Schebum; and his stepdaughter Roxanne Todd.
He is survived by: his wife Frances Allen Benton of Cairo; his children, Russell Benton Jr. (Stacy) of Thomasville, Sarah Cox (Steve) of Cairo and Terry Morey (Weedy) of Hartsfield; his stepchildren, Lorraine Johnson (Vann) of Metcalf and Phillip Wilham (Kim) of Cairo; his grandchildren, Shianne Lamb, Brittany Lindsey, Skyler Schebum, Scott Hickman and Jasmine Sanders; and his great grandchildren, Lila Quinn, Hayden Quinn, Anna Hickman, Scott Hickman, Jr., Niya McGill, Jonathan McGill and Annaleigh McGill. He is also survived by eight step-grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
