He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Wood Sr. and Elizabeth Shellhorse Woods; his wife Patricia Ann Stephens Wood; and his daughter Melissa Ann "Missy" Shugart. He is survived by: his children, Todd Wood (Jennifer), Tammy Bryant (Scotty) and Cathy Suzanne Phillips; his grandchildren, Keena Leanne Trapp, Trevor Bo Bryant, Darrell Phillips, Ted Phillips, Dawn Breanne Phillips, Kaleb Shugart, Anna Grace Wood and Kaitlyn Wood; and his great grandchildren, Rali Ann Proffitt, Eli Proffitt, Jaylyn Phillips, Jyda Phillips, Jordyn Phillips, Aiden Phillips and Riley Wader Bryant.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home (535 Red Bud Rd NE, Calhoun, GA 30701). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9th 2025 at 4:00 PM at the same location.
