He was predeceased by: his parents, Alexander "Samp" Ray and Mavle Harris Ray; his wife Carol Ann Thornton Ray; his daughter Brenda Ray Harbin; and his siblings, Harold Ray, Mildred Wallace and Tabitha Melton.
He is survived by: his sons, Robert Ray (Lynn) of Canon, David Ray (Sherry) of Canon and Steven Ray (Janelle) of Columbus, GA; his son-in-law Vernon Harbin of Hartwell; his siblings-in-law, Carrie Sue Ray of Ft Pierce, FL and Gene Thornton of Alpharetta, GA; and his grandchildren, Angela Harbin Carpenter (Eric), Elena Crase (Nathan), Cassie Ray, Gracie Ann Ray and Garrett Ray. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell (305 Cleveland Ave, Hartwell, GA 30643). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Bethany Baptist Church (2085 Bethany Bowersville Rd, Canon, GA 30520). A burial will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery (2085 Bethany Bowersville Rd, Canon, GA 30520).
