He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe M. Satterfield, II and Louise Forrester Satterfield; his grandparents, Hoke and Myrtle Forrester; and his uncle R. F. Poole (Azzie).
He is survived by: his wife Brenda West Satterfield; his children, Joe Miller Satterfield, IV (Melissa), David A. Satterfield (Tracy) and Amanda S. Lear (Scott); and his grandchildren, Hannah Brown (Milton), Erica Blobe (Justin), Paul David Satterfield, Daniel Satterfield (Autumn) and Zachary Lear. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
