He was predeceased by: his wife Shirley Black Mathews; and his parents, Eugene W. Matthews and Myrtle Matthews. He is survived by: his sons, Terry Mathews (Margaret) of Atlanta and Wendell Mathews (Sherry); his grandson Ryan Mathews (Tiffany) of Enterprise; his stepgrandson Grant McCannon (Davida); his stepgreat-granddaughter Hayley McCannon of Sandy Cross; his sisters-in-law, Barbara Fogg and Joyce Mathews; and his nieces and nephews, Breigh Black, Ben Black, Mike Mathews, Greg Mathews and Kimberly Faust.
