She was predeceased by: her parents, Blanche Phillips and Guy Phillips; her husband Arnold Barnes; her sons, Phil Barnes and Scott Barnes; her daughter-in-law Bridgett Barnes; and her siblings, Barnes Phillips and Margaret Gable (Lafaette).
She is survived by: her children, Lee Barnes of Birmingham and Carol McWhorter (Rob Douglas) of Carrollton; her grandchildren, Arielle Kaminski (Alex) of Athens, Georgia, Alex McWhorter (Jessica) of Philadelphia, Gil Barnes (Ashley) of Hickory and Kyle Barnes of Delaware, Ohio.; her great grandchildren, Owen and Eloise McWhorter; and her sister-in-law Harriette Phillips of Carrollton. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Cancer Research Institute (CRI) in honor of Bette's son, Scott, and her daughter-in-law, Bridgett. Donations may be made in Bette's memory by visiting cancerresearch.org.
