He was predeceased by: his parents, William Byrd Sr. and Bernice Robinson Byrd; and his brothers, Bill Byrd Jr., Lee Byrd Sr. and Eddie Byrd.

He is survived by: his wife Kathryn; his children, Michaela, Rob Ethridge and Krista Byrd; his grandchildren, Adeline, John Stevens and Tyler Ethridge; his sister Alice Shub; and his siblings-in-law, Roger, Françoise Eiss and Peggy Eiss. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
