He was loved and cherished by many people including: wife: Michelle Dianne Van Wie Gunnels; sons: Austin Gunnels (Abby), Tyler Gunnels (Samantha), Matt Gunnels (Charitee), and Chris Thomaston (Shay); honorary sons: Zach and Taylor Pitner; parents: Susan Gayle Reed Gunnels and Gerald Wayne Gunnels; brother: Joey Gunnels (Annette); sister-in-law: Chantel Gunnels; grandchildren: Timothy, Anna, Eva, Silas, and Hendrix; mother-in-law: Darlene Simpson; brother-in-law: Bill Van Wie (Lanie); nieces and nephews: Dalton Gunnels, Sara Gunnels, Brittany Gagne, Kaitlin Van Wie, and Mikayla Parker; preceded in death by brother: Sidney Allen Gunnels; grandparents: Ancel and Oleta Reed and Bill and Ona Gunnels; father-in-law: Garry Simpson; other: Garrett Morado and Mike Smith; and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Barton Funeral Home (131 Summer St, Adairsville, GA 30103). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Adairsville Church of Christ (126 Summer St, Adairsville, GA 30103).

The family will accept flowers, or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Adairsville Boys & Girls Club in memory of Travis.
