He was predeceased by: his parents, Mattie Leah Wilson Tatum and Olin Tatum; his sister Joyce Cox; and his brother-in-law Dean Cox. He is survived by: his wife Karen Tatum; his son Calen Casey (Jessica); his granddaughter Cora Casey; his sisters, Nancy Law (Charles) and Brenda Bearden; his sisters-in-law, Patricia Snider and Tonia Watters; and his grandson Tate. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of William to Friendship Baptist Church.
