He was predeceased by : his wife Nancy Mitchum; his parents, Jim Mitchum and Avris Mitchum; and his siblings, Jimmy Mitchum, Billy Mitchum and Betty Moore.

He is survived by : his children, Jay Mitchum of Chatsworth, Melissa "Missy" (Chris Gentry) and Karen (Mark Holt); his grandchildren, Jacob, Kody Mitchum, Preston, Katie Bennett, Caitlin and Ryder Smith; and his great grandchildren, Weston Bennett, Eliza Bennett and Oaklynn Smith.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 9th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Peeples Funeral Home and Crematory (208 S 3rd Ave, Chatsworth, GA 30705). A memorial service was held on Tuesday, April 9th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
