He was predeceased by: his parents, Neil DeFriese and Faye Brady DeFriese; his siblings, Onolee Boyd and Neil "Spanky" DeFriese; and his son Michael DeFriese.

He is survived by: his daughter Michelle "Missy" Smith (Ron); his sisters, Dorinda Eldridge (CL), Leanna Rogers and Donna Kirby; and his grandson Chris Smith (Ashley). He is also survived by nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He would always let me go fishing and loved to watch me out fish the guys. I loved visiting with him and would bring him homemade banana nut muffins that he loved. He will be Greatly missed. He was a good friend. Sending prayers to the family and friends.”
