He was predeceased by: his father Leonard Cates; and his sister Ethel Ann Brown. He is survived by: his wife Martha Cates; his sons, Warren Cates and Ronald Cates; his sisters, Betty McCallie and Sue Smelley (David); and his grandchildren, Parker Cates and Will Cates. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
