He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard "Luke" Nelson Sr. and Opal Mae Weeks Nelson; his sister Margie Booth; and his brother-in-law Randall Roberson. He is survived by: his pet Gracie; his sisters, Brenda Hall (Bobby) and Kathy Roberson; and his nieces and nephews, Angie Yancey, Lindsey Reeves, Jessica Hall, Julie Moller, Amber Sims, Kelly Graham, Jamie Brown, Jeremy Booth and Brian Roberson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
