He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Akins and Adell Akins; his son Glen Akins; and his siblings, H. L. Akins, William Akins and Joan Broadus.
He is survived by: his sons, Tim Akins of Winter Springs, FL., Dan Akins of Claxton, Andy Akins of Claxton and Zach Akins (Amanda) of Milledgeville; his sisters, Wanda Blalock of Claxton and Pauline Shaney of Indian Trail, NC.; and his daughter-in-law Zandra Akins of Glennville. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
