He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin Marshall Gillespie and Gertrude Telles Gillespie; and his sister Judy Church. He is survived by: his wife Marie Gillespie; his children, Eric Gillespie (Melissa) of Hendersonville, Brian Gillespie (Leah) of Asheville, Lauren Gillespie Sanders (Ryan) and Heather Gillespie (John Fincher) of Clayton, Georgia; his sister Linda Sutt (Scott) of Savannah, Georgia; and his grandchildren, Meredith Gillespie, Julia Gillespie, Manuel Gillespie, Emory Gillespie and Avery Beth Sanders.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in "Doc's" memory to the Clayton First United Methodist Church P.O. Box 703 Clayton, GA 30525.
