He was predeceased by : his parents, Willie C. Gates and Allie Romancie Ross Gates. He is survived by : his wife Winona Maddox Gates; his children, Steve Gates (Lori) of Clayton, GA and Julie Howard (Fred) of Evans, GA; his grandchildren, Justin Gates (Kelda), Caleb Gates, Jordan Gates, Derick Howard, Kolton DeFoor, Jaron DeFoor, Heather Glover (Jonathan) and Hannah Howard; and his great grandchildren, Lennox Gates and Lily Glover.
