He was predeceased by : his parents, Chester Franklin Smith Sr. and Inez Mulligan Smith; and his siblings, Beatrice Player, W. C. Smith, Ernest Smith, Carl Smith and Billy Smith.

He is survived by : his wife Lavalda Nichols Smith (Val); his son Tim Smith (Lori); his grandchildren, Laurel and Corbin; and his brothers, Frank Smith and Donald Smith. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
