He was predeceased by: his parents, Kimsey Odell Vernon and Dessie Armintie Vernon (Major). He is survived by: his siblings, Irene Anderson, Bud Vernon, Ivan Vernon, Clifton Vernon, Dorothy Rendleman, Lynn Vernon and Melba Castleberry; his wife Phyllis Vernon; his daughters, Janna Vernon, Jenni Shepherd and Sherri Armistead (Dan); his grandchildren, Joel Hildebran (Beth), J'May McConnell (Timothy), Holly Morris (Andrew), Christina Armistead, Mary Armistead (Michael Rice), John Armistead (Marie), Tony Tavizon and Joseph Tavizon; and his great grandchildren, Audrey Payne (Austin), Kimsey Vines (Grant), Lance Hildebran, Joshua Morris, Nathalie Morris, Lucy Morris, Harper Hildebran, Ridge Hildebran, Yelena Armistead and Aurora Armistead.
Visitation was held on Sunday, September 6th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday, September 7th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Barrett Funeral Home (118 N Brooks St, Cleveland, GA 30528). The lying in state was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Shoal Creek Baptist Church (142 Shoal Creek Church Rd, Cleveland, GA 30528). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Flowers are to be omitted, instead memorial donations can be made to the building fund of Shoal Creek Baptist Church: 142 Shoal Creek Church Road, Cleveland, GA 30528.
